Sage (Craig) Sorenson

Sage earned his childhood nickname from spending a lot of time in the hills, red rock canyons and mountains of Utah where the scent of ‘sagebrush’ was always a part of his nature. He was born and raised in Utah and, like Keith, his father worked with the U.S. Forest Service and his mother taught school. They lived in a wall tent until he was five and he learned to identify with and appreciate the outdoors, conservation, and the Intermountain West. He graduated from Utah State University Natural Resources Department in Forestry/Recreation. Sage has worked part time for Earth Tours since 2005 after finishing a 31-year career with the Bureau of Land Management in Wyoming and Utah as an Outdoor Recreation Planner. Now, he has time to enjoy traveling, family, continued education, nature study, breeding bird surveys, fly fishing, camping; harmonica, Native American flute, Irish Whistle, and mandolin music; photography, gardening, tennis, their animals (including pack goat), especially their singing dog, Ole, and of course guiding with Earth Tours.

“I really enjoy meeting people and hopefully will make their trip memorable by sharing my knowledge and love of this land from my years of experience in working and exploring the Escalante and Boulder country. I enjoy helping Earth Tour clients see and appreciate the beauty of the area and learning about nature, the culture and history”, Sage says. “It has been as fun for me as I hope it has been for them. Earth Tours seems to attract the most interesting and nice people. They always seem to appreciate the canyon country adventure this place offers and always seem willing to learn and enhance their lives by experiencing this area”. Earth tours’ guests have indeed raved about Sage and especially the slot canyon duets of Sage playing the flute and Ole harmonizing as only a golden retriever can…
