COVID & Cancellation Policies

Earth-Tours Cancellation Policy Due to COVID-19 (CV) Pandemic

Because recreating in the great outdoors seems to be COVID-safe, especially if we practice appropriate social distancing and good hygiene, Earth-Tours is now booking tours in Southern Utah for the 2021 season.  However, if evolving conditions indicate otherwise (who knows what will happen with mutating coronavirus strains and such, Earth-Tours or our guests can still cancel without penalty if they have health concerns.  We are only offering private tours where all our guests are in their own social bubble.  We hope that having the prospect of recreation in southern Utah’s redrock desert will give our guests something wonderful to anticipate.

Our biggest concern is that you might get exposed to COVID-19 while traveling to southern Utah, particularly in airports and aircraft.  Thus, we would prefer that you drive to Boulder from your homes.  If you do travel on public transportation, we urge everyone to wear a facemask covering mouth and nose and to be hypervigilant to avoid getting infected.  If you feel sick or have any symptoms on or near the day of your tour, you will need to cancel (without penalty). Please bring a face mask with you at all times, and use it whenever necessary.  On the trail, we should be able to breathe freely.  We will have you fill out a COVID-form and take your temperature as part of our screening procedure.

In southern Utah, we have developed our 2021 Earth Tours COVID Safety Plan Protocols.  Initially, we will caravan in separate vehicles to the trailheads for our hikes, because social distancing is not possible in the confines of our SUV.  On hiking trips, you will need to drive your own vehicle to the trailhead.  Our plan would be to meet your group at a good rendezvous spot, then caravan to the trailhead for our hike.  We have dozens of wonderful hikes with trailheads accessible to low-clearance vehicles nearby to Boulder, Utah.  For driving tours, we will use walkie talkies to communicate between our different stops where we will take short to moderate hikes.

While on the trail, we will observe social distancing of 6′ minimum and avoid spreading germs.  We will hike on routes where we are unlikely to encounter other people.  Although some of our hikes provide the opportunity to self-explore short, beautiful slot canyons, most of our designated slot canyon hikes will not be offered due to social distancing concerns.  We will generally avoid going to precarious places where you might need a helping hand, however if you do need a hand, your guide will wear gloves. Your health and wellbeing are our primary concerns. We can still have a wonderful time exploring some of my favorite places, while being COVID-safe.

Earth-Tours guides will all be vaccinated (Moderna), but will still use great care to avoid spreading asymptomatic illness.  Starting in May, we will consider moving to less restrictive phases of our COVID protocols.  At the beginning of each tour, the guide and all guests in the group will discuss COVID concerns and comfort levels and decide whatever is appropriate for the most cautious person in the group.

Happy (and Healthy) trails, Keith Watts
