Guides Eric Feiler A desire to understand the past drives Eric Feiler in all of his endeavors. Eric received his BA from Colorado College in 1987 (Anthropology/Archaeology) and his MS from Northern Arizona University in 1994 (Quaternary Studies/Paleoecology). He has a particular interest in the earliest inhabitants of North America, dating back 10,000 to 12,000 years ago. He has studied and reported on subjects ranging from the life of prehistoric Plains Village Indians in North Dakota, the last 10,000 years of environmental change in the mountains of Colorado, hunter-gatherer archaeology of the High Plains, and changes in Anasazi material culture through time. He has worked as an archaeologist for the U.S. Forest Service, and as a paleoecologist and archaeologist for Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff. Most recently Eric served as a founding member and is on the Board of Directors of a non-profit archaeological research company now based in Flagstaff, Arizona called PaleoCultural Research Group (PCRG) that strives to make archaeology more accessible to the general public through educational programs and volunteer work opportunities. Eric's quest to understand the past has also led him to explore traditional prehistoric technologies through hands on experience. Over the years he has become an accomplished flintknapper, has made and used prehistoric style bows and atlatls (spear throwers), tanned animal hides using stone tools and other traditional techniques, and has learned to make fire using friction. Eric loves to include demonstrations in all of his classes, and encourages his students to get their hands dirty too. He currently lives in Boulder, Utah where he is building his home with his wife, Mary, and their son, Keaton. Dr. Keith Watts Mary Eckstein Feiler |
